MISAMIS Oriental is the gateway to Mindanao, the most promising progressive island in the Philippine archipelago. Any tropical haven in Asia would be paradise for Westerners but Mindanao offers more than that – Mindanao is geographically fortunate to be not located within a ring of fire (we are invincible to earthquakes), there are no active volcanoes here and a we are shielded from typhoons because our water entrance is a bay and we are a basin surrounded by mountains. The Philippines – along with other Southeast Asian countries of course – is shielded from the current economic crunch due largely to the financial reforms put in place after the 1997 regional economic crisis. Thus, the real sector here is booming. And especially so that Laguindingan airport is expected to be completed by the first months of 2011.
